Natural Ways to Eliminate Household Pests

It is irksome to think that you actually share your home with pesky insects, such as mosquitos, flies, cockroaches, ants, and bed bugs. They can often be seen on kitchen countertops, beds, fabrics, and at almost every corner; especially in areas which are not well-lit. While there are available pesticides in the market, the chemicals in these products can do more harm than good.

The better way to get rid of these annoying pests is by using natural products, which are not only effective in getting rid of household pests, but are also safe, inexpensive, and non-toxic.
Natural Insect Repellants
Diatomaceous Earth (DE) – While this is certainly not harmful to humans, this will surely kill insects that have exoskeleton, like flies, bed and stink bugs, and spiders. Diatomaceous earth is made from crushed fossilized single-cell algae. Simply sprinkle diatomaceous earth where these insects hide. Within 48 hours, these pests will die of dehydration.

Peppermint Oil – Other mint plants and peppermint essential oil are natural spider, ant, and mosquito repellants. They even repel mice. What you will just need are 8 oz. of water and 10-15 drops of peppermint oil. Have these two ingredients mixed and shake them well. Then spray the solution in areas where these insects are often hiding. Peppermint essential oil can also make your house smell great.

Neem Oil – This is a natural vegetable oil from the Neem tree, which are often found in India. It is known to kill more than 200 species of insects. Its active ingredient is sallanin, which has properties that naturally repel mosquitoes, flies, and other insects. This can be sprayed on skin and on indoor plants to help control pests.

Boric Acid – This is very effective against cockroaches. Boric acid, when put on kitchen cabinets will be carried by the roaches to their nests. Thus killing all of the other cockroaches. However, unlike the ones mentioned above, this one is toxic and must not be ingested, so be extra careful.

Thai Lemon Grass – This is also known as cymbopogon citratus. It contains the natural citronella oil, which is known as a safe and effective mosquito repellant. To use, split a stalk then peel the outer leaves. Rub this between your palms until it becomes soft and moist. Put this on exposed skin.

With these natural, safe, and effective ways to eliminate household pests and your homeowner’s insurance policy, there is no need to call for expensive pest control. At Valencia Insurance Group, we aim to provide comprehensive insurance policies that makes your life easier. My sister has been having a lot of problems with spiders in her home, and she would really like to get rid of them. Getting some help from a professional could allow her to make sure that her kids feel more comfortable in the home. I liked what you said about how she should use peppermint oil to spray the bugs out because they are natural spider repellants.

I appreciate what you said about using Neem oil to deter pests. I have a bunch of termites that are eating my walls. I'll have to hire a control service to smoke them out.

I've been having issues with pests in my home, and I'm not sure what to do about it. It makes sense that I would want to get a professional to help me out with this. They would be able to help me out with putting those together properly.

You did a great job of explaining the better way to get rid of these annoying pests is by using natural products, which are not only effective in getting rid of household pests, but are also safe, inexpensive, and non-toxic. This made me think about all the times my son told me he saw a rat in his room and how we didn’t pay it much attention. If he’s right, and there really are rats in our house, then it’s only a matter of time until we see some structural damage. To prevent this, I’ll look for any rodent control services in my area that can find them and get rid of them.

It helped when you said that peppermint oil can repel ants, spiders, and mosquitoes. My partner and I want to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for our five kids and senior parents. I guess we should also find pest control services on Monday morning that can get rid of all the spiders and ants in our kitchen and prevent them from coming back.

I love that you talked that if not treated early, you would live with pests. A couple of days ago, my coworker noticed that we are having problems with cockroaches in our store because of broken pipes. I appreciate your informative article, I'll be sure to consult a pest control service now as they can provide more information about the removal process.
